Senior Backend Engineer (6 month contract)

Job description Two Circles, a global sports agency, is expanding its software engineering team in London. The Senior Backend Engineer will play a key role in shaping the technology proposition, leading technical design, and mentoring other engineers. The role requires experience in building scalable and maintainable code for high-traffic systems within the sports industry.

Responsibilities

• Write clean, reusable code and define coding standards.
• Advocate for developer experience and continuous improvement.
• Lead technical design and development of digital projects.
• Collaborate with Engineering Managers, Leads, and Product Managers.
• Set up software development frameworks for release management and automation.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to other engineers.
• Stay updated on emerging technologies in sports tech.
• Encourage a blameless culture.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in Node.js, TypeScript, React, and Next.js (desirable).
• Strong understanding of database systems (MongoDB, MySQL, or PostgreSQL).
• Experience with CI/CD tools (CircleCI, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).
• Familiarity with DevOps and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
• Experience with agile development and test automation.
• Experience monitoring application performance using tools like Grafana, Prometheus, DataDog, Sentry.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Experience building services for high-traffic systems is a plus.
